Description: Carleton (J Carleton) Wiggins (FRENCH / AMERICAN / NEW YORK / CONNECTICUT, 1848 – 1932) original watercolor on paper depicting a landscape scene with barnhouse. Signed to lower left and dated 1882. Mounted in a gold painted wooden frame with mat behind screen. Work on paper measures approx. 9 1/2″ height x 14″ width (24.1cm x 35.6cm) to sight. Measures approx. 23″ height x 25 1/2″ width (58.4cm x 64.7cm).

Carleton Wiggins NA (1848–1932) was an American landscape and cattle painter. He was born in Orange County, New York, and studied in New York at the National Academy of Design and with George Inness, and in Paris, and settled in New York. His landscapes were executed in broad flowing lines, with a rich low-toned color scheme, and often contain cattle, solidly and realistically portrayed.
